5.7/6.1 Hemi vs Power Steering

A Body Mopar - 1973 Plymouth duster

The question came up on forabodiesonly. My K member is out, and I just got my shortblock back, so I figured I oughta snap a few pics of the room one has with manual steering vs power steering and a new hemi. Take a look, see what you think. There's more room than I thought there would be with the power steering- if it's enough, that I don't know. Exhaust would HAVE to be custom if trying to use power steering, as I've already tried a number of options with the manual steering with little luck.

The options that I know have worked for others with manual steering: TTI headers (some say drop in, some say denting required), Street and Performance shorty headers (only reference I have heard here is they did not fit well; S&P requires you to use their motor mounts to guarantee a fit), Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 log type manifolds (easiest and cheapest option, but won't have the performance of a shorty or long tube).

If you go alter-k-tion, you can run just about anything. A popular option is the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 exhaust manifolds.

One more thing to mention- apparently the older 5.7 LX manifolds (05-08) fit on some A bodies, but you have to clearance the framerail to make them fit. I picked up some cheap-o shorty LX headers on ebay- we'll see how those do (they don't fit now, but for the price I paid, it will be worth it if some of the tubes can go un-cut).
